Welcome to the Healing Arts BookstoreI have included; shamanism, crystal healing, massage, reflexology, pressure points, rebirthing, breath and birth. These are the healing modalities I am most familiar with, and can suggest with confidence. I was trained and certified as a Rebirther and worked extensively with Jim Chappelle in Ft. Colins, Colorado-I also have personally rebirthed over 100 times myself and facilitated 26 other clients and friends. I left the program/association when it became too money centered and materialistic.. I never charged anyone for their sessions..which is the Hippie way!! I studied Crystal Healing with Katrina Raphael in Taos, New Mexico, helped distribute her first book and cassette tapes, and helped host a seminar for other well known crystal healers in the region. I never went into the Healing Arts as a profession because I have always felt that these forms of healing should be a "give away" as all healing energies come from "Source" we are only conduits of that energy. I have also studied shamanism in various forms starting in the 60s with ethnogens and organic hallucinogens, sweat lodges, men's groups, vision quests, intimacy workshops, the Course of Miracles, SRF-Self Realization Fellowship, avid hotspring healings (15 years), the art of smudging, exorcising, banishing, blessing and purifying individuals, residences and towns.I do have to give a slight warning that many of these modalities should be entered into with a very deep comittment and intention and only with very well qualified instructors..for example, if you wanted to learn Kundalini Yoga--I would suggest finding a 3HO or Sikh ashram near you....or someone who practices it and has studied it for over 15-20 years. This goes for all the modalities--Trust is of the utmost importance!!! with massage, rebirthing, crystal healing, aromatherapy, any and all alternative healing therapies. All of them can be learned on your own, of course, but without proper instruction might prove dangerous to your nervous center and emotional body. I have known too many well intentioned folks who have been literally "fried" by trying certain techniques that they should have avoided or should have been trained in.So please enjoy my selections as they are all classics in their fields or very well known and reputed authors. I try to stay away from the 1,000's of other books that are constantly being published on the same subject--for a money fix by so many authors. If you try a technique and it works--and your belief system is strong enough to heal yourself and create results--please stay with it.It takes 21 days to break a habit and 21 days to establish a new one. This is absoultely the Truth. If you can stay with meditation, focused breathing, massage, or shamanic healing rituals...for 21 days--it will become who you are..and not what you have carried for years, that you always thought was you, that no longer serve's the new you, you want to create! Happy, Joyous and Free!"I
really believe that the world is changing. People are changing.
People are searching for a greater fullfillment. We will look at
the past as a primitive time. War, money, drugs, greed, power, racism.
These are primitive words. Words of the second millennium.

Shamanism
What gives us this chip on our shoulder about any and all forms of ecstatic consciousness, chemically assisted or not?
Why is ours almost the only culture in the world to regard hallucinogenic plants
with horror, rather than with reverence and respect?
I have only read Carlos Castaneda's first three books above. They were my first glimpses into shamanism, at the time I was reading and studying the teachings I was also experimenting with peyote. mescaline and mushrooms, in the Southwest. I believe these 'organic' hallucinogens (psychedleics) coupled with a reliable shamanic path can lead to healing, rejuvenation and expanded consciousness. Experimentation with LSD, to me, were journey's into the 4th and 5th dimensions of learning and perception--stairways to higher consciousness. If I were to suggest any of these to an individual or I myself decided to resume my experimentation I would definitely ingest only the 'organics' -food of the Gods and Goddsses...Soma....Medicine. For other s that are new to 'trippng' I would caution you to experiment with an experienced guide, a safe and beautiful environment, and a healthy, well intentioned state of mind and emotions. -Many Blessings-LionHeart-(a psyhchedelic warrior)-
The
Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge
by Carlos Castaneda
"The Teachings of Don Juan" is the first in a series of
about 15 books by Carlos Casaneda describing the author's experiences
with Yaqui Indian shamanism in Northern Mexico. As a studier of
religion for many years (although not as knowledgeable as some scholars)
I find these books to be utterly unique in their scope and subject
matter. They are not like other New Age books. The journey that
Castaneda takes his readers is mind-boggling, and his experiences
are simply beyond what most people have even remotely encountered.
Time and again, Don Juan's lessons remind us that we are not as
powerful as we think that we are. His lessons lead Castaneda into
situations in which the anthropologist acts like a fool: rolling
around on the ground for hours; playing with a dog, even letting
the creature urinate on him; clapping his thighs and assuming a
"fighting form" for hours to regain his lost soul. I do
not mean to be critical of others' customs; these actions are an
integral part of Yaqui culture, but to Westerners they look foolish,
especially when performed by a supposedly "enlightened"
and "objective" student of anthropology. Castaneda, in
his search for power, must become, at least for a while, a fool.
Dignity is a small price to pay for don Juan's reminder that we
are out of balance with the universe.
Separate
Reality
by Carlos Castaneda
This book is the sequel to the first book "The Teachings of
Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge" and is just as meaningful
and profound. The idea of spirituality under the Yaqui Indian paradigm,
like other esoteric perceptions, conveys a non-ordinary reality
where rationalizations and human explanations act as superficiality.
"Once a man learns how to "see" he finds himself
alone in the world with nothing but folly." p. 81 Anotherwards,
all the world is a stage and everything we do are roles we act.
We don't leave the world as a hermit because we don't willfully
abandon ourselves, but instead we recognize the superficial roles
we are required to play as human beings and in turn, rest in our
silent self, the silent observer who "sees" this world
as a series of necessary folly and superficiality and learns to
to limit mental chatter, thinking and rationalizing and to start
listening.
This book reminds me of Timothy Leary's explanation of reimprinting.
Each time one "trips," he takes a trip beyond static reality
to the dynamic flow and each time he returns he takes an additional
snapshot and reimprints as a baby does when born. Each imprint is
added to the previous imprints, as well as reinterpreting former
imprints. And so, when Don Juan uses the power of suggestions with
Carlos Castaneda and consensus is agreed, the dynamic affect under
hallucinogens conform to such ideas which are compounded during
the reimprinting stages back to normal reality. And so, peyote consists
of an entity called Mescalito and magic mushroom smoke produces
encounters with allies.
In turn, as with many Eastern mediators, the awareness grows of
the silent observer self beyond the superficial ego self we are
required to live through as human beings. We see the folly of human
existence and become detached while simultaneously maintaining our
lives active in this world, not in inertia, but with the paradox
of "seeing" our real silent witness selves and using our
superficial roles with more artistic and less attachment.
Journey
To Ixtlan
by Carlos Castaneda
But in Journey to Ixtlan, Castaneda goes back and says, "wait,
start over, reset. I was wrong about all of that drug stuff, it's
really not necessary, don Juan just put me through that because
I was too stubborn and 'rational' to see that there may be other
views of reality than the ones I subscribe to." In this book
he discovers that he doesn't need drugs to experience other worlds.
Rather, there are a series of practices for right living that enable
the possibility of perceiving in nonordinary ways.
So Journey to Ixtlan is where the real lessons about living life
in the warrior's way begin.
Journey to Ixtlan is a metaphor for how your life will look as you
abandon your old patterns and take on a new way of living.

Breaking
Open the Head : A Psychedelic Journey into the Heart of Contemporary
Shamanism
by Daniel Pinchbeck
The strengths of "Breaking Open the Head" are once again
journalistic. Pinchbeck undertakes an odyssey in search of genuine
shamans, who can properly initiate him into the authentic use of
psychoactive plants. He takes us with us on his journey, sets us
into scenes from West Africa, to the invisible perennial contemporary
Woodstock in Nevada known as the Burning Man Festival, to the Amazon,
to the peyote fields of Mexico, to labs in New York City where chemicals
the plant kingdom never quite got around to inventing are concocted
and consumed.
We get Pinchbeck's trip reports, yes. We also get his personal spiritual
journey, and a refreshingly objective picture of what remains of
traditional shamanistic cultures, and what is emerging of Western
shamanism (or pseudo-shamanism, as the case may be.) Best of all,
we get his thought-provoking ruminations, goosed by his eclectic
reading from Huxley to Eliade to Walter Benjamin to Rudolf Steiner,
as to what this mysterious human drive to get high at almost any
cost is all about.
The
Archaic Revival : Speculations on Psychedelic Mushrooms, the Amazon,
Virtual Reality, Evolution
by Terence Mckenna
Much of Terence Mckenna's experience comes from trips--physical
and drug-induced--to and with Amazonian Indian shamans. McKenna
is best when he describes the multicolored landscapes and backgrounds
of his visions and their settings. Such description, though, is
rare; the author serves mostly as millenarian missionary, predicting
an apocalypse for the year 2012. He gives short shrift to the demonstrable
healing properties of the Amazon drugs, neglecting the most persuasive
data as to why natural hallucinogens ought to be taken more seriously.
He opts instead to promote hallucination as a messianic panacea
for the individual psych.
Terence Mckenna is not just a scientist, philosopher, theorist,
new age thinker, and shamman, he is someone who took it upon himself,
at the cost of his own life, to teach humankind the truth, or something
that came closer to truth than any other intellectual or prophet
in human history. No one else of the 60's generation will likely
go down in history as infamously as Terence will in the changing
times we live in and will continue to change. Through the use of
psychedelics, Mckenna has delved into the deepest levels of human
consciousness and with the rigour and skepticism of a scientist.
Deffinently a chalenge to those who think mind altering drugs dullen
or stupify the intellect. Terence Mckennas intellect and thought
processing speed capacity appear to have been accelerated by his
use of DMT and psylocybin if you listen to him on interviews. Here
is a person came into the world, underwhent formal schooling and
academic training and managed to decondition himself evolving into
genuine spiritual domains; surpassing the academic minds and spiritual
models of his time and culture. Time-Wave Zero was his project,
Novelty Theory his lifes work. Archaic Revival touches upon the
ideas of novelty theory in relation to shammanism and extratterestrials,
psychedelics and human cultural evolution into the surreal dimensions
of hyperspace-spirituality. This is our future, our destiny as a
species of absolute evolving consciousness.
Shamans
Through Time: 500 Years On The Path Of Knowledge
by Jeremy Narby, Frances Hayles
A survey of five centuries of writings on the world's great shamans-the
tricksters, sorcerers, conjurers, and healers who have fascinated
observers for centuries.
This collection of essays traces Western civilization's struggle
to interpret and understand the ancient knowledge of cultures that
revere magic men and women-individuals with the power to summon
spirits. As written by priests, explorers, adventurers, natural
historians, and anthropologists, the pieces express the wonder of
strangers in new worlds. Who were these extraordinary magic-makers
who imitated the sounds of animals in the night, or drank tobacco
juice through funnels, or wore collars filled with stinging ants?
Shamans Through Time is a rare chronicle of changing attitudes toward
that which is strange and unfamiliar. With essays by such acclaimed
thinkers as Claude Lévi-Strauss, Black Elk, Carlos Castaneda,
and Frank Boas, it provides an awesome glimpse into the incredible
shamanic practices of cultures around the world.

Ross Bishop sent us a copy of both his books--they ere incredible, timely and translatable.
I highly recommend them both.-LionHeart-
The
Age of Conquest was part of The Age of Karma, a 20,000 year period
that has covered much of the period of mans social existence.
During The Age of Karma, certain aspects of spiritual development,
like enlightenment, were virtually impossible. We are entering a
50 year period that will be known as The Age of Awakening, and the
rules regarding what is possible will be changing.
The Age of Awakening will encourage us to find different and more
profound ways to be and that involves learning to live from the
place of truth. Learning to live from truth powerfully changes how
we see and feel about ourselves and how we deal with life.
Healing
The Shadow
by Ross Bishop, Allison Ursky
Bishop's book is a very valuable and inspirational book for any
one wishing to heal their innerchild. Bishop is an experienced shaman
who writes from his own experiences as well as other case studies.
The reading material is easy to follow as well as pleasant to read.
Bishop leads the reader into learning how to recognize and even
accept the "Beast" within. He explains how the "Beast"
is manifested by the innerchild and gives easy to follow steps on
how to communicate with the "Beast". He explains that
once the "Beast" is heard, blockages can be removed and
healing can occur. This book is both enlightening and healing.
Truth
by Ross Bishop
Life. It confuses, perplexes and confounds. Many people have written
about it, few have offered explanations. In TRUTH, Shaman Ross Bishop
offers a unique perspective of life that differs significantly from
our normal understanding of it. Bishop provides insight into why
life is the way it is and offers some groundbreaking insights into
how we might live "fearlessly and passionately."
Bishop says, "Life can been viewed from many perspectives,
and our present view is based upon the antiquated values of the
age of conquest. Those old beliefs and values have simply outlived
their usefulness. They inhibit our growth and development both as
individuals and as a society."

Animal
Speak
by Ted Andrews
Have you ever dreamt about an animal, a panther, a snake, a bear
or a hawk? Did you wonder why the dream seemed important. Have you
ever glanced out the door or window to see a spider casually weaving
an intricate web or a raccoon or dog glancing back at you? What
does a totem mean and do the inhabitants of this modern civilization
have personal totems? Do you have pictures of a particular animal
scattered throughout your house? I have many pictures of panthers
and jaguars in the rooms in which I spend my time because I feel
connected to the jaguar of South American history, especially the
Mayans. Why?
My answers were in this book, but even without questions I have
found Animal Speak is loaded with wonderful information about so
many different creatures. Plus, it is a delight to discover what
the underlying emotions may be when someone tells you that they
like (or hate) dolphins, woodpeckers, ants, bees or perhaps a coyote
which is actually linked to the dog.
For the mystic the answer is yes we have totems. The animals (perhaps
pets) in a totem can change as they bring messages that are to warn,
protect, comfort, guide, remind or whatever is needed.

The
Way of the Shaman : Tenth Anniversary Edition
by Michael Harner
Michael Harner has taken a misunderstood and often misinterpreted
subject and has written a very good book for those who have little
to no experience with cultural shamanism. He has extensive experience
with native shamen and tells of his adventures in a way that allows
the reader to grasp the ecstatic methods of these priests. His is
not the sum of all knowledge on shamanism and it can be seen as
a condensed version, but this is still a very good book to begin
with. His techniques are good enough to allow one to develop a shamanic
connection from within themselves and their own culture. This book
is NOT a rip-off of native practices. No one culture can claim to
be the first shamen, everyone's ancestors practiced it at some point.
For those who wish to journey, this book will guide you to your
path and from there, you can fly.

Dream (Audio CD)
Anugama
Music to Clear Your Chakras and Heal Your Spirit,
When it comes to meditation nothing is set in stone and everything
is subjective. These CD's may be too busy..
Angugama uses the didgeridoo and a drum beat, along with the sounds
of nature, and synchronization with certain brain wave patterns,
to clear the emotions and help focus the mind and heart on these
beautiful sounds. It certainly works for me. The music is peaceful
and meditative. It surely heals one from the stresses and tensions
of daily life ... they seem to melt away ... or at least are viewed
from a different, more clear perspective and feeling when the music
is played and for a long time afterwards.
Shamanic
Dream, Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
Anugama
Shamanic Dream 2 is a great CD for Yoga. It sooths as well as energizes

Breathing, Birth and Re-birthing

Breath,
Mind, and Consciousness
by Harish Johari
Modern scientists are just now beginning to understand what yogis
have known for centuries--that the life force animating our physical
bodies is regulated by breath, and that the breath energy is controlled
by the mind. The esoteric and practical science of Swar Yoga--presented
in this book for the first time in English--teaches conscious observation
and control of breathing patterns to maximize energy and vitality.
Tantric Scholar and author of Tools for Tantra, Chakras, and The
Healing Power of Gemstones, HARISH JOHARI brings an in-depth knowledge
of ancient Hindu sciences to this discussion of breath and the yoga
of balanced living. His is the first guidebook for Westerners to
offer a comprehensive treatment of the subject, providing information
from Sanskrit texts otherwise unavailable in the English Language.
He explains the sensory network of the nose and its effect on the
subtle channels of energy throughout the body, showing the direct
link between the practice of conscious breathing and the electrochemical
balance of the brain and nervous system. He also shows how the breath,
alternating between left and right nostrils, is influenced by solar
and lunar forces and how one can attune to these natural rhythms
and universal laws for greater health and well-being.
Pranayama:
may our breath be our prayer (Audio CD)
by Nubia Teixeria, Jai Uttal, Ben Leinbach
Prana, the vital energy present in the air that we breathe, links
our inner and outer environments and connects us with all beings
and all nature. The volume and quality of prana that circulates
within our bodies determines the level of our vitality, and this
internal reserve of energy can be increased and purified by pranayama,
or conscious breathing. Nubia Teixeira guides the listeners through
a restorative practice interweaving these breathing techniques with
open-hearted-meditation, visualization, and singing. Celebrated
world music artist Jai Uttal and his longtime collaborator Ben Leinbach,
who provide a vibrant new soundscape of progressive world music
to enhance your pranayama practice, join Nubia.
Science
of Breath: A Practical Guide
by Swami Rama
People laughed at the image of pretzel-legged yogis focusing on
the tip of their noses- until Swami Rama walked into a laboratory
and showed scientists what a yogi with control over his respiration
can actually do. Before astonished researchers, he demonstrated
perfect control over his heart rate and brain waves- control physiologists
hadnt believed humans could possibly achieve.
For thousands of years, yogic adepts have claimed that breath is
the essential link between body and mind, energizing a subtle body
which connects the physical and mental aspects of our being. In
this landmark book, Swami Rama and two noted American physicians
explore the science of breath as the missing key to both physical
health and the attainment of higher states of consciousness. Basic
yogic breathing techniques are explained so that we can immediately
begin working with this powerful ancient science.-

I was introduced to Re-birthing and all the connections with the process through friends of mine in Ft. Collins, Colorado who were also Yogananda devotees, so I had no doubts in trusting them. It was intense, releasing, healing, painful and brought up everything I had been holding in for 30 years..I wasn't quite sure I could handle so much in so little time--but I did, and went on to self-rebirth over 100 tmes and also facilitate friends and clients over a priod of 2 yrs..never charging a penny. There can be emotional and mental danger in this process if you are not with reputable, conscious and loving guides and teachers--I was fortunate to have found a second guide in Taos, New Mexico, who facilitated more cleaning and clearing. It's a beautiful process if you have the right guides. The books below are from Leonard Orr and Sondra Ray--which--tongue in cheek--I would hold with some skepticism as to their personal integrity..the books themselves will introduce you to the process of Re-birthing and the validity of it being a therapy of value--lasting value! For this, these books are worth the few dollars spent to educate youself on your own birth-death experience on the Panet!
As for the Leboyer and Birthing books--I offer them as a confirmation that Re-birthing can be a legitimate therapy and you can, if devoted and dedicated, to the modality, reclaim your birthing memories and deep inner child, adolescense, young adulthood and even past lives. Certainly you will find out just how important the birth experience is to a new born..an Indigo, Crystal , Rainbow or Star Child...and help raise the consciousness of new parents.
If you have any quetions, I would b glad to try to answer them..just puch the "Contact" sphere below!
Many Blessings!

Birth
and Relationships: How Your Birth Affects Your Relationships
by Sondra Ray, Bob Mandel
I learned so much about myself and my past from this book. I highly
reccommend it to anyone who wants to know where and how they developed
their negative patterns in life. I don't think it all comes from
birth trauma, but after reading this book I've realized that being
born is one of the hardest things most of us ever do in our lives,
and it's no wonder our experiences then continue to affect us for
so long aftewards. You and your mate will make so much more sense
to each other in the context of the information offered here!
Birth
without Violence: Revised Edition of the Classic
by Frederick Leboyer
This book is so full of common sense, compassion and beauty while
still being founded upon simple yet so often unpracticed scientific
priciples that is almost annoying to read. "How is it possible
that we haven't been doing this for ten thousand years? How is it
possible that we don't do this today as a matter of course?";
these will be just some of the first questions that will pop up
in your mind. It is so clearly written and so important, that the
attributes of this not just life-altering but culture-altering book
about the first moments of life for a newborn child cannot be understated.
It reads, and to a large degree is constructed, like great poetry--in
much the same way the work of Galileo and Darwin and Alice Miller
and Stephen Hawking read like epic poetic novels as they sing with
human, universal truths.
Babies
Remember Birth : And Other Extaordinary Scientific Discoveries About
the Mind
by David Phd Chamberlain
The best part of this book is its collection of awesome, authenticated
birth (and pre-birth) memories. They support the belief that babies
are beings of a very high level of consciousness at the time of
birth, to a degree that most people would never suspect. This book
belongs on a list about spirituality as much as it belongs on a
list about birth. The memories that many people are able to retrieve
about their births indicate that tiny infants indeed come into the
world "trailing clouds of glory". Their emotions and level
of understanding at birth are those of fully evolved spiritual beings,
who--one assumes--lose their memories of a former spiritual existence
as they mature. Anyone who is truly open to the message of this
book will be deeply moved by stories such as the one about the baby
in the womb who was worried about his mother because he understood
that she was bleeding and near death. After reading this book, you're
very likely to want your baby to have as gentle and natural a birth
as possible--and you just might be careful what you say in the delivery
room!

Rebirthing is a healing process that engages with the mind, the body and the spirit to cleanse away toxic patterns of being and facilitate new, healthy and fulfilling goals and choices. The core practice of Rebirthing is a breathing technique; the core metaphor is the rebirth of the personality through the integration of suppressed experience.
Rebirthing
in the New Age
by Sondra Ray, Leonard Orr
Most people are ignorant to the issues discussed in this book and
are walking around pretending to live. You have not lived until
you experience the concepts of Rebirthing. I first read this book
prior to my first Rebirth in January,1990. I woke up, I was no longer
amongst the walking dead, it healed me, Rebirthing is the fastest
tool/modality for clearing old negative programming and healing
all of our stuff/emotional baggage.
Truly amazing reading, it is more than a read it is an experential
exercise!!! An ongoing process which transforms your whole life.....!!!
Celebration
of Breath: Rebirthing, Book I; Or How to Survive Anything and Heal
Your Body
by Sondra Ray
For those who have never done Rebirthing and only have just read
about it
. Reading about Rebirthing cannot tell you what it
is. Like every spiritual path, one must do the practice and not
mearly read about it and apply the technique without fail to get
the rewards. Rebirthing is simple but not easy and it takes heroic
commitment to stay with the process. Rebirthing is the only technique
I know that swiftly purifies at a rapid rate negative karma, birth-related
trauma and all spiritual and physical bodies. For those rebirthers
who have been doing it over 20-500 times can attest that this technique
will indeed change your world view from the experiences you have
not from what you read about. Rebirthing is about breathing.
It is not a breath of fire technique, but a very gentle circular
breath that when done correctly will make all other spiritual disciplines
easier. After doing this technique over 500 times, I am still amazed
at its power. For all that are interested in reading more, I encourage
you to buy this book since its one of the originals.
Rebirthing:
The Science of Enjoying All of Your Life
by Jim Leonard
In addition to information about the rebirthing process, it shares
a philosphy of life that includes physical immortality, "integrating"
instead of releasing negative belief patterns, and the "ecstasy
principle". My favorite quote is, "All statements are
equally true because truth is a function of context. Everything
is the way it is but 'truth' is how the mind thinks about it. Do
not mistake truth for the thing itself." That quote may sound
esoteric but the book is chock full of exercises to help us recognize
our personal boundaries.
