Astral Projection and Dreams...
When we dream, we have out-of-body experiences on the astral plane.
Conscious astral projection involves getting into a meditative state,
moving your astral body out of your physical body, and traveling around on the astral plane.

Astral Body
Between you as spirit and your physical

Image:
Young girl standing in a golden wheat field, looking out at her astral body.
The body there is an intermediate body known as your astral body.
It is lighter and more changeable than your physical body.
But the astral body has more shape and density than pure spirit.
Your astral body may often be recognizable as your human form,
but it can also change appearance, shift shapes, and do fun things like moving through walls.

Astral Plane
The world between the physical and spiritual world is known as the astral plane, or the astral.
While it is commonly referred to in the singular as the astral plane,
there are actually many different levels of the astral, or astral planes.
We move through these astral planes in our dreams.

Astral Travel
The astral world is much more fluid than the physical world.
Astral travel is not bound by the limitations of time and space.
You can visit different dimensions and travel to past or future experiences on the astral.
For many people, it is also easier to connect with deceased loved ones on the astral.
Astral planes vary from the ordinary, to the phantasmagorical, to the divine.
Defying easy definition, the astral planes intersect with both physical reality
and the symbolic realms of the dream world.
Astral travel can take you to dimensions beyond your imagination.

Astral Dream Experiences
Your astral body plays a key role in creating new developments which have not yet manifested in your physical life.
The astral is like a giant laboratory in which you experiment with your life and your creations.
The astral can also offer great insight, as it allows you to come at things from a different angle.
Astral dream experiences allow you to see things from a different perspective than your normal awareness.
As a result, astral dreams can be especially useful for working on situations that--
for one reason or another--
may be difficult to face directly in daily life.

Astral Projection Meditation
Astral projection typically involves getting into a meditative state so you can consciously move your astral body out of your physical body.
With practice, astral projection allows you to develop greater awareness of out-of-body and astral experiences.
These are simple directions for an astral meditation that is suitable for beginners...

ASTRAL PROJECTION EXERCISE:

Preparing the Space, Preparing Yourself...
Find a quiet, comfortable place for yourself--where you will not be disturbed.
Create a relaxing atmosphere.
You may want to light a candle, burn incense, or play some quiet, soothing music in the background.
Begin to relax in general.
Take some deep breaths and perhaps do some light stretching.
Sit upright in a comfortable position with an open posture.

Part I: Aura Meditation
Get yourself centered and grounded by doing the Aura Meditation in How to Meditate-or (Yoga Nidra)
You will also need to repeat this after your astral projection meditation.
Notice how you experience yourself before doing the Astral Projection exercise.
Then close your eyes and focus your attention inward...

Part II: Astral Projection Meditation...
Be aware of your body.
Notice how you experience the density of your physical body.
Then be aware of your aura about an arm's length all the way around your body.
Notice how you experience the lightness of your spiritual energy.
Then start to open up your awareness of an intermediate body between your physical body and you as spirit.
Notice how you experience the vibration of your astral body.
Allow yourself to shift your awareness to your astral body. Be present in your astral body.
Float your astral body up to a corner of the room.
Be present in your astral body in that upper corner of the room.
From that upper corner of the room, be aware of your physical body down below you, sitting in the chair.
Notice how you experience your physical body down below you.

Then float your astral body up through the ceiling and be on the roof of your building.
Be aware of your astral body standing on the roof of your building.
On the roof, move around a bit in your astral body.
Notice how you experience being in your astral body.
Be aware of the world around from the roof of your building.
Notice how you experience the world from your astral body.

Then bring your astral body down through the roof and be in an upper corner of the room again.
From the upper corner of the room, notice your physical body sitting in the chair below you.
Float your astral body above your physical body.
Notice what it's like to be above your physical body.
Then gently lower yourself down into your physical body.
First be aware of being in your astral body in your physical body.
Then allow yourself to shift your awareness to your physical body itself.
Allow yourself to come back fully into your physical body.

Part III: Repeat the Aura Meditation
Get yourself centered and grounded by doing the Aura Meditation in How to Meditate. Or the short form of Yoga Nidra.
Draw all of your energy back from above you.
Feel your feet on the floor.
Feel your legs, torso, arms, neck and head.
Be aware of your aura an arm's length around your body.
Notice what it's like to be grounded back in your body.

When you feel ready, take a few deep breaths, gently open your eyes, and slowly begin to move.
Notice how you experience yourself after doing the Astral Projection exercise.
Give yourself some time to integrate this experience and enjoy being relaxed before moving on to other activities.
(Especially after you first start practicing this meditation--
you may want to journal your experience, have a cup of tea, or sit quietly or take a walk with LionHeart.)
If you practice astral meditation on a regular basis,
it will become easier to do and your out-of-body experiences will gradually become clearer.
______
If you get fearful, please stop as you are not ready for astral projection.
Anything done in metaphysics should feel comfortable and easy.
If it is stressful, let it go for now, as you are not ready.

Astral travel, or astral projection is something which we all do,
almost every night when we sleep.
But we do it unconsciously and experience and remember only the dreams
which are projections of the thoughts and emotions in our minds.
With practice, it is possible to experience the astral plane consciously and with clarity.
Much can be learned in this state, we can visit places on earth and in other dimensions
and we can receive teaching from our higher selves and from more advanced beings.

To begin astral travel consciously,
first try and remember your dreams immediately on waking and write down what you can remember.
As you know, when we remember dreams on waking,
the memory quickly dissipates in the busy rush of the day's activites.
It is important to concentrate on bringing the memories forward into your concious memory.

The next thing is to try and be as aware as possible during the day,
as you then have a much better chance of being aware on the astral plane.
You may say, "but of course I'm aware during the day",
but no, in fact most of us aren't really aware of what we're doing for a good part of the day.
We wander off mentally into a daydream,
we do things automatically without thinking about them
and then wonder why we can't remember where we put our keys!

We react to situations instinctively,
bringing our emotions like anger and frustration into play
instead of acting with conscious awareness.

Just try and observe yourself for one day,
how often you are clearly aware of where you are,
your surroundings, the sights and sounds, using your five senses?

Monroe Techniques For Astral Projection
Note: After having studied many methods of Astral Projection, I have found that this is the easies to do. Monroe teaches these techniques in a week, but they can be easily done in a day, with proper devotion. I feel that this technique is superior to others because it doe not require intense visualization, which many people cannot do. enjoy!
Step one:
Relax the body. According to Monroe, "the ability to relax is the first prerequisite, perhaps even the first step itself" to having an OBE. (out of body experience) This includes bothe physical and mental relaxation.
Monroe does not suggest a method of attaining this relaxation, although Progressive Muscle relaxation, coupled with deep breathing exercises (inhale 1, exhale 2, inhale 3.... until 50 or 100) are known to work well.
Step two:
Enter the state bordering sleep. This is known as the hypnagogic state. Once again, Monroe doesn't recommend any method of doing this. One way is to hold your forearm up, while keeping your upper arm on the bed, or ground. As you start to fall asleep, your arm will fall, and you will awaken again. With practice, you can learn to control the Hypnagogic state without using your arm. Another method is to concentrate on an object. When other images start to enter your thoughts, you have entered the Hypnagogic state. Passively watch these images. This will also help you maintain this state of near-sleep. Monroe calls this Condition A.
Step three:
Deepen this state. Begin to clear your mind. observe your field of vision through your closed eyes. Do nothing more for a while. Simply look through your closed eyelids at the blackness in front of you. After a while, you may notice light patterns. These are simply neural discharges. They have no specific effect. Ignore them. When they cease, one has entered what Monroe calls Condition B. From here, one must enter an even deeper state of relaxation which Monroe calls Condition C - a state of such relaxation that you lose all awareness of the body and sensory stimulation. You are almost in a void in which your only source of stimulation will be your own thoughts.
The ideal state for leaving your body is Condition D. This is Condition C when it is voluntarily induced from a rested and refreshed condition and is not the effect of normal fatigue. To achieve Condition D, Monroe suggests that you practice entering it in the morning or after a short nap.
Step Four:
Enter a state of Vibration. This is the most important part of the technique, and also the most vague.
Many projectors have noted these vibrations at the onset of projection. They can be experienced as a mild tingling, or as is electricity is being shot through the body - their cause is a mystery. It may actually be the astral body trying to leave the physical one.
For entering into the vibrational state, he offers the following directions:
# Remove all jewelry or other items that might be touching your skin.
# Darken the room so that no light can be seen through your eyelids, but do not shut out all light
# Lie down with your body along a north-south axis, with your head pointed toward magnetic north.
# Loosen all clothing, but keep covered so that you are slightly warmer than might normally be comfortable
# Be sure you are in a location where, and at a time when, there will be absolutely no noise to disturb you.
# Enter a state of relaxation
# Give yourself the mental suggestion that you will remember all that occurs during the upcoming session that will be beneficial to your weel-being. Repeat this five times.
# As you breath, concentrate on the void in front of you.
# Select a point a foot away from your forehead, then change your point of mental reference to six feet.
# Turn the point 90 degrees upward by drawing an imaginary line parallel to your body axis up and above your head. Focus there and reach out for the vibrations at that point and bring them back into your body. Even if you don't know what these vibrations are, you will know when you have achieved contact with them.
Step five:
Learn to control the vibrational state. Practice controling them by mentally pushing them into your head, down to your toes, making them surge throughout your entire body, and producing vibrational waves from head to foot. To produce this wave effect, concentrate of the vibrations and mentally push a wave out of your head and guide it down your body. Practice this until you can induce these waves on command. Once you have control of the vibrational state, you are ready to leave the body.
Step six:
Begin with a partial seperation. The key here is thought control. Keep your mind firmly focused on the idea of leaving the body. Do not let it wander. Stray thought might cause you to lose control of the state.
Now, having entered the vibrational state, begin exploring the OBE by releasing a hand or a foot of the "second body". Monroe suggests that you extend a limb until it comes in contact with a familiar object, such as a wall near your bed. Then push it through the object. Return the limb by placing it back into coincidence with the physical one, decrease the vibrational rate, and then terminate the experiment. Lie quietly until you have fully returned to normal. This exercise will prepare you for full seperation.
Step seven:
Dissociate yourself from the body. Monroe suggests two methods for this. One method is to lift out of the body. To do this, think about getting lighter and lighter after entering this vibrational state. Think about how nice it would be to float upward. Keep this thought in mind at all costs and let no extraneous thoughts interrupt it. An OBE will occur naturally at this point.
Another method is the "Rotation method" or "roll-out" technique. When you have achieved the vibrational state, try to roll over as if you were turning over in bed. Do not attempt to roll over physically. Try to twist your body from the top and virtually roll over into your second body right out of your physical self. At this point, you will be out of the body but next to it. Think of floating upward, and you should find yourself floating above the body.
Monroe suggets you begin with the lift-out method, but argues that both are equally efficacious.

Does Astral Projection Work?

Yes, Astral Projection works! If astral projection didn't work, thousands of people wouldn't attest to having had out-of-body experiences. But why does astral projection work? And how?
There are many fine books available describing astral projection and telling how one can experience astral projection. But few books say anything on why astral projection works. Just how does astral projection work?
Recent discoveries in quantum physics (the study of the physics of sub-atomic particles) and in cosmology (the branch of astronomy and astrophysics that deals with the universe taken as a whole) shed much light on how mind interacts with the universe. These discoveries compel acceptance of the idea that there is far more than just one universe and that we constantly interact with many of these "hidden" universes.
Unfortunately, most books on quantum cosmology are written in language that an ordinary intelligent person cannot understand. Moreover, many if not most scientists are in a state of denial of anything supernatural. They are blind to the paranormal and simply cannot see the obvious logical conclusions of their own discoveries.
What is needed is a source that explains in understandable, non-mathematical terms the relationship between mind and matter––how the human mind acts to influence the physical world.
Such a source exists.
